Halloween Costume Ideas for the Procrastinators

Halloween; a time when the leaves have all changed color, the air is crisper and stores are already shoving Christmas down customers’ throats. Halloween is a big deal for a lot of people- bigger than most major holidays. And, what’s not to love? Halloween is the one night where you can be somebody entirely different, or, finally be yourself. In many ways, Halloween is a night of ‘anything goes’.

If you’re like me, the moment November 1st hits, you’re right back to counting down the days until the next Halloween. You’ve got your costume ideas down to a select few. By the time summer rolls around, you’re stuck eagerly staring at your finished product in the closet for four months.

Not being overly prepared for the night of sweets, horror and the year’s most popular movie characters doesn’t make you any less of a fan. In fact, most people wait until last minute to even consider the possibilities of their potential Halloween costumes. The last minute decision can leave your gas tank on ‘E’ as you try desperately to sort through the leftovers at costumes stores.

So, in the spirit of creativity and being eco-friendly, here are some tips for all you last minute party-goers.

1. Paper Bag Princess

Arguably the easiest and cheapest costume to throw together, is the “Paper Bag Princess.” It is the ultimate last minute assemble for story book fans or those with simple but creative taste. To execute, go to your local grocery store for a few large paper bags, or a few packs of paper lunch packs. Wallah! You’re a “Paper Bag Princess”!

2. Zombie Barbie

Putting a sick twist to a universal child’s toy, the “Zombie Barbie” is perfect for those who know how to work their magic with a few makeup brushes. Cheap alternatives to the most expensive of professional makeup to make this costume are toilet paper and eye-lash adhesive. You can grab a cheap wig at your local discount store, or go natural. Either way, you’re guaranteed to make a big impression on the general public if you walk out of your home looking equal parts Barbie-beautiful and cringe-worthy.

3. Lara Croft

If you’re into films or video games, or just have a general appreciation for all things ‘badass’ then Lara Croft from “Tomb Raider” is the costume for you. Played by Angelina Jolie, Lara Croft is one of the most iconic female movie characters. She has the strength and attitude of her male peers and the sexiness to back up all that sass. Her costume is a lot easier than her personality, though. Most of her costume consists of clothing and accessories you probably already have lying around the house. The smaller pieces, like gun holsters and weapons can be bought at your local dollar store or Halloween supply shop. If you’re feeling super nifty, you can even use your own belts to create a more vintage look for the costume’s straps.

4. Solar System

With a couple quick picks at your local craft store, nothing too fancy and nothing too expensive, you can show off your astral-love by sticking the solar system to your body. Your costume will be out of this world. Yes, I went there. What’s more? It’s the perfect costume for perfectly bad puns and unsuccessful but admirable pick-up lines. Use it to your advantage, because you’ll have the world wrapped around your finger (pun #2, you’re welcome).

5. #Basic

When you can catch the scent of pumpkin spice coming from your local coffee shop before the first leaf of autumn falls, this costume has your name all over it. Beware, this costume is an invite for some of the harshest critics but you definitely get kudos for being creative and crafty. So if you’re brave, or dedicated enough to your favorite caffeinated beverage, go for it! You won’t get another chance for another 364 days.

6. Video Game Characters

Image result for mario and luigi costumes

Mario and Luigi. The dynamic duo. You’d no doubt struggle to find a person who doesn’t have child memories that include the red-clad and green-clad brothers of Nintendo. This costume idea can extend to a fellow procrastinator and the final product is both cute and significant to majority of your peers.

7. Old School

Do you remember the days when grabbing a broom and a witch hat was all the rage? Or, maybe you were more of a plaid shirt wearing, hay stuffing kind of trick-or-treater. Those were the days of simplicity and the single-minded purpose of getting as many sweets packed into your pillow case. There’s nothing wrong with kicking it old school, either. Find ways to spice up an ordinary costume and make it more original.

Remember, anything goes. Judgement is like a whisper in the wind for this one night, so don’t waste it. With so many DIY tutorials, it’s easy to make the most rudimentary costume, or the most intricate, without scraping your pennies together and regretting it the morning after. Nothing is impossible with the power of internet and your own imagination.

Fall Makeup 2016

Here comes another Fall season post! As most of you glamorous people can probably tell, Fall is my all-time favorite season. It’s the time where you notice on how the season changes quite dramatically. The weather gets cooler, we switch from our tank tops to coats, and we start to get ready for the upcoming holidays for the last three months of the year. Makeup is no stranger during the transitions to cooler weather. Women often have to change their whole makeup routine and products in order for their skin to adjust appropriately to colder climate. I know it really depends on the skin type on which products to switch out from. But these are a few makeup products I recommend for the fall season:

For fall season, the focus is to create a flawless canvas while giving a warm glow to your face. The hardest part: finding a foundation that will give you exactly that without drying out the face. Choosing a liquid, matte foundation is usually the most recommended way to go. Too Faced Born This Way Foundation, is an option that will minimize pores and give a natural finish to the face. I also recommend Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation. The formula is light-weight, provides good coverage, and can be build-able if needed. It’s no wonder that it’s Make Up For Ever’s best-selling foundation in the market.

To give the skin more of a glowy or dewy finish, use blush, bronzers, and highlighters! They will add definition and more warmth to the face. During the fall, blushes such as NARS Blush in  Deep Throat or tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Charisma with add a just-pinched look. I recommend using a matte bronzer such as Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer for a natural definition to the face. For highlighters, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder will give the face a natural glow and a light shimmer.

Choosing neutral (browns, greys, blacks) and earthy tones (burgundy, maroon, taupe, navy blue, evergreen, etc.) will enhance the warmth in your eyes. (And will coordinate with the fall theme!!)  The original Urban Decay Naked Palette and the Smokey Eye Palette has a collection of both neutral and earthy eyeshadows. For a more edgy eye look, Tartlette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette features a collection of matte neutrals that a lot of makeup-nistas would love to experiment.

The darker the color, the better. Choosing a berry to a red wine lip color will provide not only more definition to the lips, but will emphasize the warm, matte theme to your makeup look. Colors like Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge (Matte) Lipstick in Brick Red, Wine Violet, and Raspberry Pink will complement the neutral and earthy eye makeup. Bite Beauty also provides a collection of lipsticks with that classic, satin finish with colors such as Whisky, Verbana, and Maple.

All the featured makeup brands and products in this article are available at www.sephora.com.

The Best Places to Travel in 2016/17

The world is a really big place. But it can seem incredibly small for those of us who haven’t gotten a chance to travel much. Our understanding of the world geographically and culturally is limited to what we are raised around and what media shows us. Often, the portrayal of different parts of the world through media is represented through a pre-disposed perspective. In order to get the most honest, raw view of universal diversity and beauty, traveling abroad is a must.

One of the best times to get some flyer miles and sight-seeing under your belt is before, and even during, your college years. Nowadays, there are a large number of sites and programs that offer young adults. They typically have an age range from 18-25 years old, and are a safe, easy and relatively cheap way to travel. One of the most popular sites for traveling abroad is EF College Break .With over forty programs to choose from, some of which reach up to 21 days, their popularity is hard to beat.

However, if you’re looking for an opportunity to be immersed in a different countries culture, maybe try studying abroad! Programs that your own college offers is an option for a more day-to-day experience to mix with the exciting tourism. While the destination choices are often very limited and occasionally dependent on your major, you get to spend an entire semester abroad. This means you are living life as genuinely as those native to the area. Not to mention, you’ll be able to fulfill college credit while abroad!

So, here are some of the best places to travel in 2016-2017 whether you choose short and sweet, or long and lasting!

Tokyo, Japan:

The number of tourists who visit Japan each year is jaw dropping. This year alone, the tourist count could reach 10 million. Yet, this is no surprise with all the unique beauty and fun Japan has to offer. If you’re a fan of fashion, good food or landscapes that leave you breathless, Japan is for you. Being one of the most culturally rich countries, so many people have been making it their travel destination. With this publicity, getting around has also become a lot simpler for first timers visiting Japan.

Krakow, Poland.

Krakow is a popular destination not only for tourists but for a number of people in Poland’s other cities. Well-traveled photographer, Arata, is a native to Japan but resides in Poland. He reflects on Krakow with admiration: “If I answer in simple, it’s because the city has a special atmosphere which other cities don’t have.” As someone who has traveled to cities across Europe and America, Krakow seems to have made the biggest and best impression. Definitely a fun place I would check out!

London, England:

London is an obvious choice for traveling hot spots. It is one of the most popular destinations for tourists traveling to Europe and with good reason. Famous for its abundance of high-end fashion, an abundance of historical gems, and the holder of all things Harry Potter, it is easy to understand why the city has so much appeal to such a wide range of travelers.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

One of the biggest fears to overcome for first time travelers? The language barrier. Anyone who has, or is considering going abroad has had to confront the terrifying prospect of facing it. You’re in an entirely new place with no concept of the social norms and only a few foreign words to get by. However, one of the great things about Amsterdam is that nearly all the locals speak English. To make this city even sweeter, eighteen is the legal drinking age. You don’t want to miss out on the experience in Amsterdam. (Especially since it is renowned for its amazing beer and cheese.)

It’s not always about where you go. Some travelers set off with a list of intended places and a determination to make all their sight-seeing dreams a reality. Others show up at the airport with a bag of essentials and pick a destination at random. Regardless of where you go, how you get there, or who you go with, traveling is a ‘must’ to check off your bucket list. Don’t let allow your imagination and comprehension of the world be limited to you’re the local spots you grew up with. Throw yourself out into the world and it will show you the potential for universal beauty.

So, where do you want to go travel Glamorous people? Please comment below and let us know!

Fall for Denim 2016

Denim is a timeless staple in everyone’s closet. And by everyone I mean EVERYONE, Men, women, teens, young adults, even little toddlers in teeny tiny denim. What makes denims so timeless is that it come in all types of clothing. It is also so versatile you can either go sophisticated or edgy with the right denim piece. Even celebrities like Rihanna or Beyoncé rock denim on their days off; Walking busy streets and treating them like their own catwalk. Where denim came from as a necessity during blue collar work has transformed into one of the most long-running fundamentals in the fashion history.

With autumn arriving, that means school’s back in session. For this season, denim is heavily emphasized onto ’60s and ’70s style. This means we are seeing denim that ranges from classy, vintage, and a splash of bohemian, giving women a chic and mature look.

To keep you glamorous people on trend, here’s some of the top leading denim trends for this Fall/Winter season 2016/2017.

Flare Jeans

Flare jeans are back and here to stay a while. Used in both casual and professional wear, this style of jean can be used on anyone and worn anywhere. You can dress up your denim with a classy pair of wide leg jeans with heels, or for a more casual look go for a at the knee flare. Another young and hip spin on the flare jean is the kick-flare trend which shows a bit of the ankle. Even though this a slightly bold route, you can still opt to make kick flares sophisticated.

Two-toned Jeans

Worn by Kendall Jenner for this past summer, these two toned jeans add dimension to any outfit. Don’t be wary of this “Canadian Tuxedo” in a single pair of pants. I promise you’ll be on point while rocking these jeans. To my dedicated trendsetters, I highly recommend investing in a pair of these jeans to play with during this fall season.

Patchwork Denim

Another trendsetter for this season is the patchwork denim wear. Much like the two toned denim, patchwork allows a denim spin on the technique of color blocking. This array of mix-matched patterns of different denim tones provides dimension to the wearer. Through this dimension, you get to show off your fabulous personality and fun style.

Boyfriend Jeans

Hailed as the new skinny jean of 2015, these comfy go-tos are back once again just in time for the fall season. Who isn’t so happy that boyfriend jeans are back once again? I know I am! Just like the flares and the ever famous skinny jean, boyfriend jeans go with any outfit with more emphasis on a casual tone. (Not to mention how extremely comfortable they are too!)

Skinny Jeans

Last but not least, a classic denim look that is always back in season, the skinny jean. A favorite for a majority of people, skinny denim is seen, worn, and adored everywhere. This trend has been on the rise for the past nine years and has transformed into a staple for fashionistas all over the world. Whether you rock your skinny jeans at ankle length, with rips in the knee, or with a pair of chunky ankle boots, these jeans are versatile for any outfit!

Here you have it, the best denim looks to get you geared up and ready for the 2016-2017 Fall/Winter season. Comment below and let us know your favorite way to pull off denim during the chilly months! Fall Fashion: What’s Trending Now?

What’s Trending in Fall 2016?

With New York Fashion Week (NWFW) having taken the world by storm, now all of us fashion lovers seem to be left in the wake of: “Well what is it that is trending this Fall?” Last fall, 70’s attire and the colors to go with it was the “it” way to dress. This year NYFW showed us styles ranging from Renaissance to Men’s Wear to 80’s one shoulder. So with such a broad display of fashion to choose from, let’s breakdown feasible pieces to pull off this Fall season.

Let Your Fur Down

NYFW highlighted a lot of statement fur coats on the runway this year. Whether it be in a fur coat, vest, or shoulder wrap, faux fur is the perfect addition to any fall outfit as the season’s change. As a statement piece, try finding a fur vest to add to your wardrobe this season. A vest is versatile because it will be just warm enough to add oomph to the shorter sleeved outfits at the beginning of the season. But then, in Winter, layer the vest under a coat to add extra warmth!

Look Tan in Cooler Temperatures

A big color rocked on the runways this past week was tan. This color made its appearance with the classiest of vengeance that have fashion lovers needing to purchase a chic piece. Tan outerwear is the perfect addition if you want to invest in a timeless classic. I suggest rocking a tan cape, which rocks two NYFW trends and creates the classiest couple in outwear this Fall.

Blooming in Fall

On top of the bright colors seen on the runway, especially dusty pink and yellow, florals are huge this year. Despite florals having a more spring feel, designers’ truly captured the essence of Fall within these bold floral patterns. In order to grow in this trend, look for florals that are small and patterned, either on a blouse or a long dress.

Chokers are not “Basic”

That’s right, word is in. Chokers have moved from the “basic” category and have become a front runner in Fall accessories. This Fall fashion trend will add glam to any outfit as we move to button down blouses and cocktail dresses. For a classic route, try adding a skinny chiffon scarf to add vintage flair to an outfit. For a dresser event add a blinged out or metal choker to add show-stopping pizazz to your outfit.

70’s Shearling

For all of those who didn’t want 70’s fashion to end, never fear because shearling coats made their appearance this season. I for one, love the 70’s fashion trend. So when I saw shearling, I was instantly excited to rock a jacket reminiscent of Hyde or Jackie on “That 70’s Show.” Shearling coat choices were seen in denim, suede, and even leather. Try a shearling coat over a midi-dress and some ankle boots to complete your Fall look.

Tartan, Plaid, Jumpers, and the Revamped “Schoolgirl”

Another timeless Fall classic seems to be tartan and plaid. This pattern is always the first thing we see in stores as back to school begins. However, designers at NYFW pay homage to the “schoolgirl” fad by incorporating Tartan fabric into timeless A-line dresses, pencil skirts, blouses, and overcoats. Another item falling under this category were jumpers. Schoolgirl-esque jumpers were given a stylish upgrade as vintage patterns were used, mostly from the 70’s.  Try finding a knee-length jumper dress in a golden yellow corduroy or wool as a statement piece.

Velvet Baby, Velvet

Velvet is the last major fashion trend for this Fall I feel we can all follow. Through platforms shoes, leggings, or turtlenecks, velvet is the perfect fall fabric to bring richness into an outfit. I would suggest waiting on this velvet fabric until later in the season, because it can be warm to wear. But the best part about velvet, is it looks best on everyone. It is flattering due to it’s darker color and pattern it creates. So my fellow fashionistas, rock that velvet (and don’t worry about Halloween candy or Thanksgiving dinner showing!)

So Glamorous Gurus, grab your latest trends and runway right into fall with all these new looks. If there are other trends from NYFW you’re going to that I didn’t mention, leave a comment below and let us know about it! Or tweet at us @glamorouspaper and #glamorouspaper on all your Fall looks this season. We love to see all the ways you’re going to make this Fall glam!
