We’re different. We’re the strong ones. And you can’t break us!
Season 2 of Netflix’s eccentric half-hour comedy, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, was just made available for streaming today. If you haven’t binged the first season, DO IT NOW. Trust me, you’ll get cramps from all the laughing. Well, if rapid-fire jokes, over-the-top characters, and non sequiturs are your style, then you’re going to have a riot.
For those of you have watched the show (and loved it as much as I do!) but don’t want to watch the first 13 episodes again, here are 10 quotes and jokes from Season 1 to get you pumped for the binge fest.
1. “I’m pretty but tough, like a diamond. Or beef jerky in a ball gown.”
2. “Turn your resistance all the way up to ‘Ghandi’.”
3. “1996 called. It want its clothes back.” “2090 called. You’re dead and you wasted your time on Earth.”
4. “Titus, age doesn’t matter. You can die at any time.”
If you’re a 90’s kid or a 00’s kid you looked to this guy for advice on all things middle school (sometimes even high school!).
As the star of the popular Nickelodeon TV show Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, Devon Werkheiser helped us navigate the turbulent waters of crazy teachers, gym class, group projects, crushes, and friendships that make up our public school system. With his two best friends, Cookie and Moze, he did the impossible: create a guide that will help you survive school.
The show ran for three years helping kids all over the country not only survive but conquer school. Some of my favorite tips include:
Get a haircut 2 weeks before school starts so it can grow in.
Don’t be afraid to raise your hand. It doesn’t mean you’re dumb when you raise your hand you just get interested.
If your crush doesn’t like you remember you could still be friends.
Don’t stress, or you’ll make a mess.
Don’t like something? Don’t complain, change it.
If you’re not popular in the top ten, you’re popular in your top ten.
Be confident, be grateful, not jealous.
Now, we all wish we could have good old Ned back with a holy guide of tips for high school and college (trust me, I could use a few), but Nickelodeon is probably not going to revive the show anytime soon. It would be awesome getting the actors back together considering how much everyone has grown over the years though.
And my personal favorite:
Luckily, Devon Werkheiser, who played Ned, heard and answered our prayers with a web series of his own called Devon’s Life Survival Guide, a YouTube series of general life tips. With the first episode uploaded on Jan. 25, 2016, the weekly webisodes deal with a variety of topics such as productivity, spirituality, and wellness and take in questions from viewers themselves.
“Hello. I’m Devon Werkheiser. It’s been years since I’ve helped you survive middle school.”
Cue the feels.
One of Devon’s first tips is really profound and inspiring: “Choose your growth.” You can learn and grow from anything you experience. Whether it was a bad or great situation, you were changed from it so it is up to you to learn and improve from what you experienced. “It’s a choice to be an active creator of your life or a victim to it.” Preach it, Devon!
Watch the first episode here and make sure to comment so he can answer your questions!
The nostalgia is too real with this. If you’re looking to take a walk down memory lane to afternoons on the couch eating Gushers and watching Ned, Cookie, and Moze get into another round of crazy antics or you’re just really into conquering your life, watch Devon’s videos. Just like back in 2004, the tips are as helpful as ever. Thanks, Devon.
He also writes and performs original music which he uploads to YouTube as well so check him out!
As one agent leaves another returns to fill the void.
Just last week, fans were shocked to see Criminal Minds staple and heartthrob Derek Morgan leave the BAU. Morgan, played by Shemar Moore, was a fixture on the show, serving as a mentor to young agent Dr. Spencer Reid, the voice of reason during emotionally charged cases, and flirtatious partner in crime with tech wiz Penelope Garcia. Seeing him leave after 11 years on the series not only leaves an emptiness for the team but the fans as well.
Apparently, having Morgan leave the BAU has been planned for a whole year, back when Moore’s contract expired. The show and its network, CBS, was able to keep it a secret, so the departure came as a big shock to viewers everywhere, eliciting emotional responses from fans, primarily on Twitter and Tumblr.
But despite the sadness of seeing a great character go, there’s still much to look forward to, especially if its a familiar face returning to the screen.
On tonight’s episode of Criminal Minds, Paget Brewster will be back to guest star as Emily Prentiss, former member of the BAU, an old friend of the team, and beloved character of the series. With her return comes a new case about an international serial killer she believes will target an American and the much needed acknowledgement of the team’s dynamic post-Morgan. Prentiss may not be able to fill the hole in our hearts created upon Morgan’s departure, especially since she’s only back temporarily, but at least we’ll have someone to help us get over the pain of saying goodbye.
Everyone’s favorite Disney Channel blonde is making a comeback – and killing it. Lizzie McGuire – eh hem – we mean, Hilary Duff has been out of the spotlight since 2007, and she is stepping into 2015 with new music, a new TV show, and a new outlook on her life.
Hilary recently told Cosmopolitan Magazine, “I just always want to fight for my happiness,” we want you to fight for your happiness too Hil!
Hilary has had quite a journey since the release of her last album, Dignity, in 2007 (eeek!) – she took some time off, got married to Mike Comrie, they had a child – Luca (3 years old), and has since been separated and divorced. Although Hilary came in and out of a serious relationship with the father of her son, she continues to have a positive mindset. Hilary promises a deeper look into her life and all that has happened since we last heard from her in her new (not yet released) album.
Hilary recently explained to MTV, that when she began writing for her new album, the songs were very heavy – filled of love and loss – and eventually the music shifted back to her positive vibes. “I’m one for sunshine, so it’s shifted a lot and it feels a lot better to me,” she told MTV during a sit-down interview. Hilary filled MTV in with a few more details; the album has a lot of dance music, however; it is still very heartfelt – there is even a song for her son, Luca, called, “This Heart,” (awww). “I’m excited for people to hear it,” she gushed. As of now there is no set release date for the album, however; she has three singles out and we are loving them: “Chasing the Sun,” “All About You” and the most recent; “Sparks.”
While fans – us included – are pining for Hil’s new music, we can still get a dose of Duff every Tuesday on TV Land as she plays the sassy, confident Kelsey in Darren Star’s (creator of Sex in the City) new television show, Younger.
The show is cute, quirky, and very sexy. Hilary’s new role truly shows old fans – and new fans – that she is no longer awkward middle school-er Lizzie McGuire, instead; she is a professional editor in New York City with an incredible drive. Hilary told Vulture, “It’s nice to have a show where women are just powering together.”
As if Hilary’s new success is not enough to capture the media’s attention – her deep-sea blue hair has had the paparazzi cameras ALL over her. She told Ellen DeGeneres that she was inspired by the ocean during a vacay with her son! LOL. We love your new look, new music, new TV show, and new vibe, Hilary. We are so excited to see all that lies ahead for you.
Welcome back girl, we missed you! Let us know if you’re as excited as us to see Hilary making a comeback in the comments or on Twitter using #glamorouspaper
