A big story this week is the national debate about whether or not the confederate flag should be taken down in South Carolina. Many people feel very strongly about this issue, and actor John Daley decided to chime in on the subject, quipping that the confederate flag hasn’t been relevant since the Civil War. The backlash over the flag came after the horrific church shooting in Charleston, which was racially motivated. The decision about whether or not to take down the flag will be made soon.

Wednesday was Mindy Kaling’s birthday, and her Office co-star Rainn Wilson tweeted her a, um, heartfelt message. “IT IS YOUR BIRTHDAY.” is a reference to an episode of the beloved sitcom, where Jim and Dwight were in charge of Kelly Kapoor’s birthday party and failed miserably. This tweet was a great treat for any Office fan.

If you haven’t heard, Taylor Swift has been in the news all week; it all started when she would not put her latest album on Apple’s new streaming service, writing an open letter explaining the decision. Apple was offering a free three month trial for their service, and during that time period, no artist would be getting paid for their music. Taylor voiced that this was extremely unfair, and this was why she was not giving Apple her music. Less than 24 hours later, Apple apologized and changed their policy, now paying artists even during the free trial period. Calvin Harris tweeted about this victory, clearly happy that his girlfriend “changed the entire music industry.”

Monday night was the season finale of Castle, and star Nathan Fillion was live-tweeting the big episode. He had a slew of hilarious tweets, including the one above; he also shared a group selfie of the cast from filming the finale. Castle just recently got renewed for another season, so this finale was written as if it could possibly be the last episode ever. The result was a wonderful episode full of suspense, a scary murder investigation, and a great moment at the end with the entire cast gathered together. Nathan’s tweets and the episode are definitely worth watching.

The news broke that American Idol will end after its next season. Josh Groban, who has performed on the show multiple times before, made a hilarious tweet about critics of the show celebrating this “cancellation.” After fifteen years on the air, Idol has definitely made a name for itself. This past week there was a lot of news about cancelled shows; networks seemingly went on a killing spree. Some other shows cancelled include BackstromForever, and Revenge (which just ended Sunday night).

Just when you thought it was over, Deflategate is back in the news again. In case you don’t know, months ago it was discovered that the Patriots’ footballs had been slightly deflated, giving them an advantage in that game. The team and coaches had claimed to know nothing about the incident, assuming someone snuck into the locker room and damaged the footballs. After an investigation, though, the blame seems to be placed on quarterback Tom Brady. He has been suspended for four games in the upcoming season, while further investigation is pending. Brady and the team are very upset about this, still denying involvement. Either way, the whole situation is pretty funny, especially with people like Rainn Wilson cracking jokes about the team.

This past Monday, rapper Waka Flocka Flame announced that he was planning on running for president in 2016. Many people are in complete disbelief over this. The rapper made this announcement on 4/20, a day on which marijuana enthusiasts celebrate the drug, so it is possible this was an elaborate joke. We’ll have to see what happens, but it seems like Waka Flocka doesn’t have Zach Braff’s vote.

We’ll end this week’s tweets with a hilarious one from Rainn Wilson. Currently starring in Backstrom but best known for his role of Dwight Schrute on The Office, Rainn has always been a funny guy. I doubt his next job will be an Uber driver, though it would be a very interesting ride if Dwight Schrute was your driver.

What are your thoughts on Waka Flocka apparently running for president? And what do you think of Lana’s newest song? Let us know in the comments or tweet us using #glamorouspaper!
