How to Motivate Yourself to Workout

Fall and Winter have always been the seasons of staying warm and staying full. With school, work and everyday life making a full comeback after the end of summer, it isn’t easy to motivate yourself to do much. Not unless that “much” involves take-out and T.V. Some of us love the hibernation period; cookies, hot drinks and home-cooked meals, whats not to love? Its the side effects most of us would rather do without. But, the last thing on our minds during the holiday season is working out. It doesn’t have to be impossible, though. At least, not if you don’t want it to be. So, for those desperately seeking inspiration and a kind kick in the butt, here is the best ways to motivate your workout.

1. A Fire Playlist

Don’t brush this one off. Arguably, its one of the most motivating ways to get yourself to the gym. Think about it, whether you’re walking down the street or behind the wheel, you’re usually moving to the music. So why not apply that to your workout? If you haven’t updated your playlist recently, there is nothing to feel excited about. Sure, they may be some of your all-time favs, but pick a playlist that refuses to let your body still. It’ll give you something to look forward to and promote a better, longer workout.

2. Be Creative

You don’t have to go to the gym to workout. More often than not, its the formidable trip to the gym that holds us back. The drive, or walk, seems unworthy of our effort. So ditch the trip and use the area around you. It can be you living room floor, your backyard or your entire neighborhood. Whatever appeals to you most is the best choice to keep your motivation in ‘drive.’ Even if its a slow walk around your block, a few rounds of ‘Just Dance‘ or Pilates DVD, do something. Your body and mind will come to anticipate the daily activity, need it, even.

3. Switch it Up

Once you’ve gotten into the initial swing of working out, the motivating doesn’t stop there. In fact, its even more important to focus on motivational while you workout regularly. Don’t give yourself a reason to call it quits. And nothing will stop you faster than the absolute boredom of repetition. Now, its possible that routine and repetition is the driving force for a lot of exercisers, and its cool. But, for those of us who can’t stand doing the same thing over and over again, diversity is a must. Change up your workout from day-to-day so you don’t avoid it altogether. Whats more, you can look to fellow exercisers and the internet for information. There is no shortage of workout tutorials on the web, Thus, there should be no shortage of working out for us.

4. Flaunt Your Stuff

Literally, flaunt your workout clothes. What better feeling is there than when you buy that brand new pair of shoes you had your eye on? Or, the perfect dress for a long-awaited night out. You look good in it, and more importantly, you feel good in it. Do the same for your gym clothes. Treat yourself and get the outfit you want. It doesn’t matter if its more a matter of comfort or appearance. Whatever it is, if it gets you in the clothes and off the couch, thats all that counts. This generation is the luckiest in this respect, with workout clothes being something of an admired style- one that offers a countless number of flawless looking sneaks to tie any look together.

5. Buy Your Motivation

If you can afford it, buy yoga or workout classes. Group exercises are growing in popularity and they all but ensure your attendance. After all, if you pay for the classes ahead of time, do you really want to waste your money? Tying yourself to a paid-for exercise class is probably the smartest, though not most cost effective, way to handle you workout motivation. If you pay and don’t go, thats the sound of the toilet flushing with your money in it.

How you do it doesn’t really matter. Each person is different from the next and maybe no one thing will work for you. What matters is if it means something to you, and if you want to do it to be a happier and healthier person, there are plenty of ways to motivate yourself. Just remember the end goal, remember why you started and if you scratch it, pick up and start again .

Artist Spotlight: Porter Robinson

To all my glamorous people and music lovers! Although I don’t have an exact favorite music genre to listen to, I love going out and exploring on new music. Every once in a while it’s nice to get away from all of the mainstream music.  So quite recently, a friend from work recommended me this artist to listen to. I have been hooked since then. For all you EDM fans, this ones for you, here’s my pick for music artist of the week.

Porter Robinson is an American DJ, record producer, and musician from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He specializes in electro house, dubstep, and synthpop music. A majority of his influences come from Japanese culture, Japanese anime, and gaming which he integrates into his music. Since 2010, he has been gaining popularity all over the country and was recognized overseas as a one of the music industry’s leading electronic DJs and producers. He collaborated with multiple DJs and music artists on the nation’s top hits. One you may know is Zedd’s “Clarity.”

In 2014, Robinson made his debut album “Worlds” through Astralwerks and Virgin EMI. Since that time, he was on hiatus with the purpose of producing new music. He collaborated with Madeon to produce “Shelter” and the single was released on August 11, 2016.

On October 18, Robinson collaborated with A-1 Pictures and Crunchyroll to release a new Japanese anime music video “Shelter.” The story tells of a 17-year-old girl named Rin, who lives alone in the confinements of an empty virtual space. She takes control of that virtual reality and with her vivid imagination, creates a world of her own. During the process, she discovers an important aspect of her past and its key help her move forward in the future.

What attracts people to his music is his ability to not only incorporate different elements in tune with the music he creates, but his ability to have his music tell a story and to give it depth and meaning in his tracks. His music is highly praised for its worldly difference from other DJs and for its Japanese-inspired synchronicity.

If you would you like to listen more of Robinson’s music, “Worlds” is available on most digital download sites, such as iTunes and Spotify. If you want to check out more on Robinson, visit his website here or his YouTube channel.

Listen to Robinson’s music and let me know in the comments below on your favorite tracks! Or tweet it at @GlamorousPaper!

Five unforgettable artists you haven’t heard of yet

         img_20160927_102413

New artists pop up almost daily. And although the discover category on Spotify is  e v e r y t h i n g  for staying on top of new music, it’s still hard to always keep up. Here I have five unforgettable artists that I’m dying to share. They cover the gammit of new hit music that will keep you groovin’ for days and nights to come.

 ALLAN KINGDOM

allan

Allan Kyariga, better known as Allan Kingdom, is a Canadian born rapper who moved to Minnesota as a young boy. Kingdom first hit the scene when after dropping his mixtape “Trucker Music” in 2011. However, his abilities didn’t make a huge debut until appearing out of nowhere in Kanye West’s hit song “All day.” The song not only puts him on the radar but lands him a spot in City Pages as best hip hop artist of 2014. Kingdom’s sound is not only refreshing, but the best part is that he actually has something to say. The rapper’s lyrics run deep and every song holds a story. Kingdom’s most recent album drop, “Northern Lights” shows how truly talented he is. This album is the next step in showing the world that he’s not one to look past. With his unique rhythm and killer beats, Allan Kingdom is one to keep a close eye on.

DYLAN DUNLAP

Dylan Dunlap, a Los angeles based Indie rock singer, found his love for music at a young age. He grew up pursuing the industry in any and every way he could. For the past three years, Dunlap has been performing his original songs on the of streets downtown Burbank for hours at a time. Dylan first made a debut performing on season 8 of The Voice. He has gone on to open for various artists including icons like Molly Ringwald and is set to open for Phil Wickham and Howie Day. Dylan’s first major release was his single “Ella” in 2015. This release lead up to his latest album “Thoughts Become Things” which was dropped February of this year. The 20 year old singer has a passion that is almost palpable when he performs. Not to mention his distinctive tone will also have you hanging on his every last word. You’ve been fairly warned now to keep an eye out because Dylan Dunlap is taking the industry by storm.

ABRA

abra_ojwnbi

Abra, the Atlanta retro r&b singer, combines vintage vibes and synthesizers to create a sound unlike anything the industry has heard in quite some time. Abra has a voice that is smooth and sultry, completely enveloping you in her music. This is probably why I find myself listening to her 2015 song “Fruit” on repeat. The hit song is one of many on her album “Rose” which released June of last year. According to Billboard Magazine the album has the idea of “loss of innocence” strewn in between the lines. Abra’s latest project, “Princess”, holds similar 80’s qualities and her hit, straight from the EP, “Cry Baby” does not disappoint. Abra not only has a knack for music but one for fashion. The artist continually makes a statement in her appearance whether she is performing or filming a music video. Abra is on the verge of becoming a sensation and is an influential woman to keep an eye out for as she is already making major waves.

AURORA

Aurora, a 20 year old norwegian singer, is bringing a new creative light to music as we know it. Her songs are haunting and poetic with a dash of edge. Aurora first released her EP “Running With the Wolves” in May of 2015 which first captured the public and landed her an award at the Spelleman Awards in Norway. From the unique sound of her voice to her editorial music videos, it’s hard not obsess over Aurora. Her latest album “All My Demons Greeting Me As A Friend”  is an absolutely magnificent work of art that entraps you in a world of what seems to be make believe. This year Aurora is on the U.S. billboards top 200 and that’s only the beginning. Expect to see a lot more of this quirky, bleach blonde, lyrical genius.

RAURY

There are folk artists and rappers but what about a folk rapper? Well do I have something for you. Raury is a 20 year old alternative folk rapper from Stone Mountain, Georgia and to say he has talent is an under statement. Raury’s album “All We Need” is a testament to his unique style and distinct vision of music. If you know what is good for you, you will go and watch the music video for his single “Devils Whisper.” The piece has you entranced from beginning to end and will give you a new appreciation for alternative music. Raury continues to rise in notoriety and is working to make a big impact on the music industry. His idiosyncrasy and fearlessness when it comes to being different is exactly why he is on the road to success.

There you have it glamorous people, 5 new artists that we all need to keep an eye on. Comment below with any other up coming artists you feel shouldn’t be missed and let us know who we need to check out!

Good Night, Sweet Prince

This thursday, April 21st 2016, legendary music icon Prince died at the age of 57. Found in an elevator at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota, the paramedics performed CPR to no avail and pronounced him dead at 10:07 AM. The Carver County police will continue to investigate the circumstances of his death as there is no official cause at the moment. An autopsy of the body will be performed by the Midwest regional medical examiner.

The acclaimed musician was born Prince Rogers Nelson and is famous for creating a distinctly Minneapolis sound that combines pop, synth, and new wave as well as defining the music of the 80s with hits like “Kiss” and “Purple Rain.” His music reaches millions and is loved all over the world and across generations.

Just last week, Prince’s health was put into question when his plane to Minnesota made an emergency landing to rush him to the hospital. The next day, he performed for an intimate crowd in Paisley Park with a new guitar and piano, proving he was alive and well, assuring fans to “Wait a few days before you waste any prayers.” Oh the foreshadowing.

As news of his premature death broke online and in the media, floods of fans took to social media, the streets, and record stores to express their heartbreak and love for the musician who touched so many lives with his music and charisma. “Fans rushed to record stores to pick up vinyl and other Prince memorabilia. Some said the icon’s death ‘is what it sounds like when doves cry,’ a reference to his monster hit from 1984.”

President Obama also expressed his appreciation of the musician and sadness upon hearing of the untimely death.
