Austin City Limits: The Coachella of Texas

Austin City Limits is a three day music festival located in Austin, Texas. Austin is known for its amazing food, The University of Texas at Austin, live music, and hipster attitude. This year, the festival is celebrating its 15th year anniversary over two weekends. Some major artists that will be there are The Chainsmokers, Flume, Kendrick Lamar, M83, Radiohead, Mumford & Sons, and many more.  To add to the music, local favorite restaurants serve up some unique and delicious food. A few popular stops include Amy’s Ice Creams, Torchy’s Tacos, Tiff’s Treats, and Mighty Cone.

Since I’m originally from San Antonio, Texas, (which is about an hour south of Austin) here’s a local’s perspective. My first time going to Austin City Limits (ACL) I was a junior in high school. It was one of the best weekends of my life. I went with a giant group of friends, dressed like a typical trendy teen, and enjoyed myself for every single second of it. My favorite part was being seventh row for Kendrick Lamar. I sat on a friend’s shoulders, and looked back to see 100, 000 people behind me. This year will be my third year to go to the festival!! With the great memories I’ve already made, I’m extremely excited to be able to attend again.

So how does ACL seem like Coachella? Being a student at the University of California at Los Angeles, I attended the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April. (I’ve already bought my ticket for 2017!) Coachella and Austin City Limits have many things in common. I describe ACL as the ‘Coachella of Texas’ when telling people about it for the first time. Both festivals have similar artists playing to huge crowds on a giant field, boho styled attendees, delicious food trucks, and easygoing vibes. As a veteran of both music festivals, I can say that even though they’re inherently similar. While they’re both very similar, you need to attend both to really understand the experience of each weekend.

If you’re ever in Austin during the beginning of October, have $250 lying around, and love a good time, I highly recommend going to the Coachella of Texas, the Austin City Limits music festival.

Have any of your Glamorous people ever been to ACL? If so, comment below and tell me if you had a mind-blowing experience like I did at Kendrik Lamar! Or tweet @GlamorousPaper your favorite festivals looks from your past events!

Taylor Swift’s Bad Blood Music Video

Taylor Swift released her highly anticipated "Bad Blood" music video.
Taylor Swift released her highly anticipated “Bad Blood” music video.
The wait is finally over! Taylor Swift debuted her much anticipated music video for her hit song “Bad Blood” at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday Night. Swift had spent nine days promoting the video, slowly releasing posters for each member of its all-star cast.

Swift released posters on Twitter and Instagram of each one of her A-list friends who would appear in the video. The posters also included the name they had picked out themselves for the video. Swift picked “Catastrophe” for her name, while friends like Karlie Kloss and Lena Dunham picked Knock-out and Lucky Friori respectively. All in-all the video had eighteen of her friends in it, only one of whom was male: Kendrick Lamar (who added some rap verses to the song). The cast included Cindy Crawford, Hailee Steinfeld, Jessica Alba, Martha Hunt, Serayah, Ellie Goulding, Gigi Hadid, Hayley Williams, Zendaya, Lily Aldridge, Ellen Pompeo, Mariska Hargitay and Cara Delivingne. The last member to be announced was Swift’s best friend, Selena Gomez.

The video was directed by Joseph Khan, who also directed Swift’s “Blank Space” video and is responsible for other hit videos such as Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie” video. The video centered around the theme of the song, which is about a friend betraying Swift (many believe it is about Katy Perry). The video opens with Selena Gomez double crossing Swift, leading her to enter training for a battle. The video spares no expense and is very elaborate. It even has some Hunger Games flair with some of the outfits. It is during Swift’s bad ass training scenes that we start to see all of the big name stars. However, each one is only in the video for about 10 seconds. Nonetheless, it is still worth watching. Swift did something unprecedented by having so many stars in one video. It shows just how well liked she has become within Hollywood. Additionally, the hype behind the video was incredible and Joseph Khan did an amazing job directing it.

Sunday Paper: April 12, 2015

Here’s a recap of the most popular stories of the week in your Sunday Paper!

It appears that flowers aren’t the only thing blooming in Hollywood this Spring. Tons of celebs are having babies, getting pregnant, announcing engagements or tying the knot and it’s exciting to see. Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds welcomed their baby girl James who apparently has three god mothers. Lively’s co-star in “The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants” Amber Tamblyn, joked that Aexis Bledel, America Ferrara and herself are James’ godmothers.

“I never named them godmothers. They’re my dear friends. I would say my baby has lots of fairy godmothers,” Lively said in an interview for her new movie “The Age of Adaline.”

Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake have welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Silas Randall Timberlake. Jill Duggar also gave birth to a baby boy. Robert Pattinson got engaged to his girlfriend FKA Twigs, Kendrick Lamar announced his engagement to his high school sweetheart Whitney Alford and so many more. Congrats to all the new families and couples!

Noah Cyrus, Miley Cyrus’ little sister, came under a magnifying glass when her PETA AD went viral this past week. We all have seen what Miley has done in the past, but is her sister headed down the same road? I don’t think we have to worry about that. The ad features Noah lying on a table “lifeless” with her chest opened and organs exposed. The ad is to protest against animals being dissected for classroom projects.

“Because I love all animals so much, people should realize they don’t have to cut into something to learn about it. You should ask your teacher for other humane alternatives… You’ll learn so much more off of the computer. If you have the other option, why not take it?” Noah said in a statement to PETA.

Festival season is in full-swing and the stars are aligning for the event. The popular festival “Coachella” is known to be full of upcoming artists and well known ones, but has also gotten popular for the fashion. Stars like Beyonce, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Fergie, Bella Thorne and so many more have been stepping out in crop tops, flower prints, maxi dresses and the all too important flower crowns. Several of these celebs have taken to Instagram and Twitter posting pictures capturing the fun and it looks like one heck of a time.

National Siblings day was also this past week and tons of celebs posted photos of them with their sibs and it couldn’t get better. Tons of celebs flocked to Instagram and Twitter to post cute pictures and videos of reminisce with their siblings. Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Alba, Cindy Crawford and Eva Mendes are some of the cutest I have seen. Check them out!

Sunday Paper: March 5, 2015

Take a look back at this week’s top stories in this week’s Sunday Paper!

This week has been filled with drama and Indiana’s Religious Freedom Act is near the top of the list. A local pizzeria went under scrutiny when they said they wouldn’t cater a wedding for LGBT people because of their own beliefs.

No need to fret “Scrubs” stars Donald Faison and Zach Braff took to Twitter to post of himself and Faison with the caption, “If you really want pizza for your gay wedding in Indiana…We will make it for you.” That’s not a bad trade off in my opinion. The controversy prompted Memories Pizza to shut down temporarily after the intense backlash from LGBT and allies.

I’m still grieving over Jon Stewart leaving “The Daily Show” but his replacement has finally been announced! Trevor Noah made his debut on the show last December as a contributor and now he is taking the lead.

“It’s an honor to follow Jon Stewart. He and the team at The Daily Show have created an incredible show whose impact is felt all over the world.” Noah said in a statement.

“I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with…in fact, I may joints a correspondent just to be a part of it!!!” Stewart said in a statement.

There is no set timeline for Stewart’s departure has been announced but Noah is enthused to fill the position.
Kendrick Lamar’s name has been buzzing recently after releasing his new album “To Pimp a Butterfly”, but the 27-year-old rapper will be rocking to a tune; wedding bells! After rumors swirling Lamar confirmed he is engaged to his high school sweetheart, Whitney Alford.

Lamar is known for keeping his life private so it came as a surprise for him to release the news two days after the premier of his “King Kunta” music video. Th couple have been dating for about 10 years.

“I wouldn’t even call her my girl. That’s my best friend. I don’t even like the term that society has put in the world as far as being a comparison –she’s somebody I can tell my fears to.” Lamar said in an interview with Billboard published back in January.

Lamar has not made any recent statements about wedding plans, but we are happy for the couple!
