Fighting Back Against Mike Pence

They say you can’t fight fire with fire. That’s true…usually. But, a small dose of shame and frustration can wane the strongest of flames. Whoever said revenge is a dish best served cold? They were wrong. Let the dish be served hot- let it marinade in the flavor of unexpected retribution. Let your victim enjoy it, then tell them the contents afterward. Or, in this case, let the prey bask in his triumph as you patiently watch their unavoidable defeat. This is how you take revenge on a man who is fighting to take away a woman’s control over her own body. This is how you take revenge on Mike Pence.

"Vladimir Putin is a great leader...but we have to confront Russia's barbaric attack on civilians in Aleppo. If that doesn't make to you

Nobody knows shame and frustration like Mike Pence right now. As Donald Trump’s running mate, its comes as no surprise that the politician is against Planed Parenthood.

Since 2011, when Pence was an Indiana congressman, he made his stance on the health care provider quite clear.  His efforts were put into taking away all of Planned Parenthood’s federal funding. The anti-abortion bill that Pence signed was one of the most invasive and constrictive of its kind. It barred abortion in Indiana based on the gender, potential disabilities and the race of the embryo.

Seems unreal, right? It isn’t.  And it looks like this is could be a topic that we’re forced to face on the regular, now. That doesn’t mean we have to take it lying down, though.

The election results only fueled the anger of thousands when it became obvious that our leader, and his right-hand man, were willing to take away rights that women fought very hard for. So, in response to the end of the election, a frenzy of donations began. Donations made to Planned Parenthood, and, incidentally, donations bearing the name “Mike Pence.”

Even worse (for Pence), certificates of acknowledgment for these donations were sent to…

Drum roll, please…

You probably guessed it: Mike Pence, himself.

So how many of these donations could possibly be in Pence’s name? According to NBC News, over 20,000 of the 128,000 donations to Planned Parenthood are courtesy of newly elected vice-president.

Now, if that isn’t a large pill to swallow without a drop of water, I don’t know what is.

Whats more, the spike in donations to Planned Parenthood have also shown a number of those contributions in Hilary Clinton’s name. Though, as a candidate who expressed her firm belief in women’s rights and their access to health care providers like Planned Parenthood, these donations appeared to be a show of support, rather than an insult. In a way, its an expression of people’s displeasure for the election’s results and a creative one, at that!

Many celebrities have been joining the ‘revenge-trend’ and encouraging it through social media. And, with the help of influential stars and Trump’s wiggling stand on punishment for abortion, the donations probably won’t be ending anytime soon.

What is important to remember, even if you’re pro-life (because it is okay to have your own opinion) is that Planned Parenthood isn’t just about abortion. On the surface, it’s an aspect that they are most well-known for. Unfortunately, it is this uninformed assumption that causes so much confusion when the funds of the healthcare provider are brought into question. But, it is deeper than some care to know…

“We deliver comprehensive sex education that empowers all people to make informed choices and lead healthy lives. Planned Parenthood is proud of its vital role in providing young people with honest sexuality and relationship information in classrooms and online to help reduce our nation’s alarmingly high rates of unintended teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. Planned Parenthood affiliates provide educational programs and outreach to 1.5 million young people and adults every year.”

Regardless, everyone has a right to their beliefs. And, in the same sense, everyone should have a right to their own body. This movement isn’t just about the equality of gender, race, disability or orientation. It is also about the equality for an individual. What might be right for one person is not necessarily the best for another? So why try to make everything black and white when we live in a world decorated with color?

Restrictions of the body, culture or mind are like trying to fit 120 crayons into a box meant for 24. You’re doing more harm than good. Maybe some of the crayons will survive, but how can you justify breaking the majority of them just to have them all together?

Lena Dunham and Odell Beckham Jr.: A Breakdown

Lena Dunham Odell Beckham Gala

Okay, so here is what happened with Lena and Odell – don’t worry, it was confusing to me at first too – but let’s hop right into it.

Someone explained it perfectly on an EW Facebook comment on an article about this situation:

Lena + Odell

So… first thing first.

Lena made an assumption about Odell Jr., on Twitter and in an interview. Lena stated that she assumed Odell looked at her like she was not his type, not even knowing what Odell’s type was at the time of this comment. I don’t even know Odell’s type. I don’t know anyone who does, famous or not.

Lena proceeded to say; “she thought she was not his type by the standards of shape he likes on women.” They were at a Gala, so Lena was presuming that his type was a model figured woman. In my attempt to try to find a silver lining, assuming that men like model shaped women is that not that weird to assume in general. The weird part comes later on – I know the situation seems very adolescence right about now.

Lena was conspiring up scenarios in her head about what Odell was thinking. Situations and movements that were going on his head, but were they really? That is the question. Lena posted a rampage on Twitter that said in Odell’s head he was thinking she was a “marshmallow.” Lena even went on to say that he was thinking she was a “child or a dog.” What all these tweets conspired up was the fetishizing of African-American men in the community. And from the looks of it, many people agreed with this on Twitter. Not only was Lena fetishizing Odell, she was fetishizing herself.

Lena then went on to say she had an attraction to Odell Jr., which is the okay part of the story. There was no issue with that aspect of the situation. But, to assume that Odell wanted to automatically have sex with her because she was a female is where this situation gets weird. Lena getting “rejected” by this athlete was too much for her to assume in this situation because he had not said one word to her at all. They never had a conversation, so why was Lena making these assumptions on Twitter and in interviews about the apparent situation at hand? The assumption that every guy wants to have sex with a walking human being is false. Not all men are sluts or the male equivalent of that.

I find it a little weird that Lena made a huge public display about the entire situation that never happened. What do you do in that situation? Where was her press team when she was tweeting these tweets? If it was about her “insecurities” all along, then why would she be Tweeting them knowing her huge fan base? Nothing against the insecurities, we all have them, but why go on a tweet spree about a scenario that never really happened?

That begs the question that should celebrities have some supervision on what they Tweet. Because if this was about her “insecurities,” she shouldn’t have been tweeting these thoughts in the first place and simply just stating them to Amy Schumer instead. But, what do I know? I mean the situation started because she told Amy Schumer what happened and they were having a discussion about it. She stated that in an interview, so that could be where it was even derived from.

The thought that these male athletes are on a pedestal is enough, but to assume they have to talk to someone at a Gala is another story. A ton of famous people do not associate themselves with other famous people at Gala’s or get together’s in a public setting. It is simply said, no one has to talk to anyone. If this was the real world, normally people don’t just go and talk to people randomly. They would scroll on their phone to try and pass the time on social media.

That leads to this question: Was she in the right? Was she in the right to tweet these thoughts? (Again, Twitter is about formulating your thoughts and posting them without thinking about it.) Celebs should have this right, because well, they are real people too; but, in these instances, it does lead to the question of supervising of their tweeting. When things like this happen, it makes me think otherwise. And from a personal standpoint, blaming this situation it on her “sense of humor” is a cop-out move. Her sense of humor does not make much sense to explain why she was tweeting what she did.

Odell was a trooper about the entire situation – he stated he did not want any problems with her and that was simply it. I am sure the entire situation was awkward for him since he never actually had a conversation with her. He was technically becoming famous for not saying a word. Which is probably weird on his end. All and all, Lena has a lot to figure out about the Twitter world – people will choose any moment to say something negative, but does that mean she should fall prey to it in the public eye?

What do you think Lena should have done? Was she in the right? Or was she in the wrong? Comment below and let us know what you think!

Four Books by Celebrities that you SHOULD Read

Many celebrities have taken time out of there oh-so-busy lives to write books so that the rest of us not-so-famous people can get a peep into their lives. It’s really generous of them and if you’re like me, you love to read these books and learn more about your favorite star’s life. Here, I’ve listed just a few great celebrity books that you should definitely read!

  1. The first to make the list is one of my favorite! “Yes Please” by Amy Poehler is a must read! The star of Parks and Recreation wrote a book that was released in 2014 that will keep you in stitches the entire time. Amy, being a comedian, doesn’t lose her personality throughout the entire book. She gives all of her readers insight on how childhood, teenage, and adult life. It’s inspiring and funny…it’s truly a must read!

  2. Of course if you read “Yes Please,” you need to read Tina Fey’s book “Bossy Pants.” The two books, like the inseparable women who wrote them, go well together. “Bossy Pants,” has the type of humor that we have all come to love from Tina Fey. It has a strong feminist message and keeps the reader very entertained. If you loved Tina on Saturday Night Live, you’ll love “Bossy Pants!”

  3. Another great book by a celebrity is “I Hate Everyone…Starting With Me” by the late Joan Rivers. Joan, luckily for us, took notes on many of the hateful things she saw, did and said throughout her life. She, of course, doesn’t have much of a filter…so when it came to writing a book, she put all of her unfiltered thoughts into it. She appeals to us all by telling the harsher side of many celebrities and even herself.

  4. Ellen DeGeneres has also published several books. Her latest book, “Seriously…I’m Kidding,” might be the funniest yet. The book will seriously have you laughing out loud as you’re trying to quietly read in the local Starbucks. While some of the chapters don’t have a super serious point, Ellen delivers great advice throughout her book and reminds us all to not take life too seriously.https://twitter.com/SMH_2711/status/689324549708447744

The Wow, The Meh, and The Cringey

The MTV Movie Awards has never been one to take itself too seriously. It’s for sure no Academy Awards or Golden Globes, especially with its emphasis on flashy effects, big-budget blockbusters, and younger audience appeal. To kick it off this year, MTV decided to host the awards outdoors on the Warner Bros. studio lot in Burbank, CA as opposed to the traditional theater venue, a risky move that was ultimately fun and innovative. Nevertheless, sometimes it outdoes itself in jaw-droppers and head-scratchers. Here are few of the most exciting moments of the night, whether spectacular or not.

MEH: Cursing Up a Storm and D*ck Jokes

The hosts never shied away from throwing in a swear every now and then, dropping F-bombs left and right. One of them being in reference to Leonardo diCaprio and his character’s encounter with a bear in The Revenant. Don’t watch with youngsters if you want to keep them pure.

CRINGEY: Teen Moms Joke

Zac Efron, Adam DeVine, and Anna Kendrick participated in a bit that at best falls flat and at worst makes fun of teen moms and MTV’s show 16 and Pregnant. In an effort to promote the three actors’ upcoming movie, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, the involves Anna setting up a dating audition for the two guys, but instead of the girls she picked out coming on stage, actors pretending to be pregnant teens come up instead. Like DeVine’s expression throughout the bit indicated, this joke was just distasteful.

Lots of other fun things like Alexander Skarsgård presenting an award pantsless, Rebel Wilson and Adam DeVine’s kiss, and The Lonely Island’s jiggy Will Smith Tribute happened too, but we’ll forever be scarred by that awful song about Leo and the bear.

Hosted by LL Cool J, and co-host Chrissy Teigen, the show gives celebrities two song of their choice to perform. The first song is in a way a tease, as their second song they are allowed to use anything and anyone they like to put on a full concert, the winner is selected by the crowed in attendance and the winner takes home the belt.

“Lip Sync Battle” is a spin off from the popular  “Tonight Show” skit. Fallon and co- producer Stephen Merchant (“The Office”) and John Krasicki (“The Office”) first pitched the show to NBC for network broadcast or for distribution on one of NBC’s many cable channels, however NBC decided to pass on the show.

NBC definitely messed up on this one as more than 2.2 million viewers tunned in for the premier on April 2. Thus, making it the most watched debut show for a non-scripted series in the networks history.

The debut premiere included Fallon taking on The Rock. The Rock came out opening the show with the ever so infamous “Shake It Off” hit by Taylor Swift, and Fallon began the competition with a little conga dancing to Harry Belfontes “Jump in the Line.”

It is such a fun show, I mean who doesnt enjoy a few celebrites making a fool of themselves in a good way. Tonights show included Ann Hathaway and co-star to the film “Devil Wears Prada,” Emily Blunt.

Ann Hathaway closed out the show and took home the victory belt with her version of Miley Cyrus “Wrecking Ball,” and let me just say it was hilarious and the numbers can show for it, as the video received 8 milion views on YouTube even before the show aired.

You could never go to far with a performance and while its all fun and games these celebrities mean business, and came armed to this Lyp Sync Battle. Ann even flipped off Blunt as she rode the wrecking ball. It’s all in good spirit as Blunt mentioned that “This hippie balls became dust,” speaking of herself, way to be a good sport ay Blunt.

Justin Beiber, Deion Sanders, Mike Tyson and Anna Kendrick are also set to appear in the upcoming segments.

You can catch “Lip Sync Battle” Thursday night at 10 p.m. On Spike TV.
