Green Tea Pocky and KitKats

Green is definitely one of the to-go colors for Halloween. There’s a lot of elements that associate with green that’s especially specific for Halloween. There’s slime, candy, and ecto-plasma for all you Ghostbuster fans. A really fun way to entertain your party guests is getting these candies like Green Tea Pocky sticks (chocolate-covered thin biscuits) and Green Tea Kit Kats as party favors. Matcha green tea, specifically, is one of Japan’s biggest exports, and the flavor has been growing popular for the past few years. These Japanese candies are definitely something new to share with friends and see the look on their face once they realize how tasty they are despite their green look!

Pumpkin Cake Pops (Ghosts, Pumpkins, and Frankenstein)

This recipe was created by Rachel with her YouTube channel, kawaiisweetworld. She shows us how you can add  a little cuteness to some scary-looking creatures like little Frankenstein heads, pumpkins, and your friendly, neighborhood ghosts. In my case, I would like to try decorating the cake pops into little pirate heads! The cake pops cake favors can be however you like your cake. But if you want to really get into the Halloween spirit, try to make the cake pops with pumpkin spice! It’ll really be more flavorful and adds a bit a foodie fun to the party. These cake pops are not only super cute to make, but it’s very easy with ready-to-go ingredients that you can find at your local supermarket. Monster Tacos

Yep. You are seeing exactly what it is. These tacos are looking at you. This fun recipe takes a spin on ordinary tacos, which turns them into these funny monsters that lives in between the taco shells. The taco recipe is the same- carne asada, pulled pork, or beef inside the taco shell, topped with shredded cabbage, salsa, sour cream, and all that good stuff. But in addition, take two small meatballs, add sour cream on the meatball, and take half an olive to make the eyes. Plop them on top of the tacos, and voila! Your little monsters tacos are ready to go. Let’s hope the guests eat the monsters, before the monsters eat them.

Pirates’ Rum Punch

For this Halloween, I am invited to my friend’s Halloween party, and her theme is centered on Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise.  In addition of dressing up Captain Jack Sparrow style, I wanted to bring something that fitted the theme to the party…but was running out of ideas of what exactly I wanted to bring. Looking online, I was bombarded with pirate theme food.

But I was thinking outside of the box and wanted something different to bring to the party.

Since this was specifically Pirates of the Caribbean, I wanted to find something that screams Jack Sparrow. Then I thought…Where’s the rum? Pirates’ Rum Punch is a fun twist and a refreshing way to your Halloween party, all the while entertaining the guests as they sing “Yo Ho! A Pirate’s Life for Me!” All you need is to mix Light rum, Dark rum, Coconut Rum, and 151; then add the Blue Caracao, Sour Apple and Peach flavoring; add in orange juice and 7up or Sprite for a crisp taste; and throw in a few squeezed lime wedges to garnish.

You can find this recipe at http://www.drinksmixer.com/drinkk180j00.html

WARNING: MUST BE AT LEAST 21+ YEARS OF AGE. Saavy?

Halloween Ice Cream

Halloween and ice cream. Life doesn’t get any better than this. Gemma Stafford is known for her homemade no-churn ice cream recipes on YouTube. For the season, she has made this Halloween video so you would be able to make your own ice cream creation and share it at your Halloween Party! I suggest taking the extra steps to make your ice cream as decorative as possible. I have never tried making my own ice cream with her recipe before, but it looks so good! Just like the delicious stuff straight out of the carton from the supermarket.

Even though Fall technically begins around September, its feels like the season really kicks when October rolls in. What is the first sign you would know that autumn is officially here? The smell and sight of pumpkin spice. Pumpkin in itself is a staple to North America. It has been a part of the autumn culture for generations. Pumpkin spice…Everything

Usually this is one of the few things that come to mind when the term, “pumpkin spice,” starts floating around. This is especially true in a lot of coffee shops everywhere you go. Every coffee place will sell their seasonal pumpkin spice lattes. Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes are extremely popular with a lot of coffee lovers. Once fall comes around, it’s usually everyone’s go-to drink in the morning and afternoon. This sweet drink has a subtle taste of cinnamon that balances out the espresso mixed inside. To compliment it? Dollop some whip cream on the top and a dash of pumpkin spice powder. This drink can come in both hot and iced varieties. I recommend getting it warm just to get in the mood for the season.

In a lot of bakeries, cafes, and local supermarkets, pumpkin spice flavor is everywhere. You find recipes for baked pastries such as muffins, cupcakes, cookies, and even the regular pumpkin cheesecake. There are even YouTube recipes for pumpkin spice cake pops and macarons! These foods are used for special occasions like Halloween parties and for Thanksgiving. Pumpkin spice is on everyone’s seasonal favorites list, and it’s definitely one to spice up your life!

Pumpkin Patch Festivals/ Autumn Festival

Pumpkin Patch festivals are especially common in a lot of local communities. Festivities are held to celebrate the plentiful harvest of the year. Depending on the festival, they can vary from petting zoos, live performances, carnival booth games, and the many, many, many food vendors and booths available. Field activities such as frolicking in the pumpkin patches or getting lost in a haunted corn maze is are popular festival activities that are interactive. Anyone and everyone is invited to these festivals, but mostly families with children attend. What do you get out of a pumpkin patch festival? Well, you can choose pumpkins to decorate your house with, use it for holiday recipes, or carve the pumpkins into decorative Jack O’ Lanterns.

Jack O’ Lanterns

When in pumpkin patches, comes the Jack O’ Lanterns! This popular tradition was originally used in to represent the will o’ the wisp in English folklore. They were used in the past for fellow trick-or-treaters to help them roam the roads at night and to keep the Halloween spirit alive. This tradition still continues today. Carving pumpkins is a popular family/school activity for children to get their hands dirty and get creative on the different designs for pumpkin faces. Even Disney indulges in the spirit of Halloween. They decorate their theme parks in complete Halloween decorations and have many Jack O’ Lanterns that take over the park.

And when in Jack O’Lanterns comes Halloween! The 31st is getting closer with each passing day, and I plan to make a Halloween post soon suggesting on the popular themes and costumes that people are obsessed about for this year!

So glamorous people, what is your favorite pumpkin obsession for the fall? Comment in the description below or tweet @GlamorousPaper if there’s a recipe we should try out!

Halloween Costume Ideas for the Procrastinators

Halloween; a time when the leaves have all changed color, the air is crisper and stores are already shoving Christmas down customers’ throats. Halloween is a big deal for a lot of people- bigger than most major holidays. And, what’s not to love? Halloween is the one night where you can be somebody entirely different, or, finally be yourself. In many ways, Halloween is a night of ‘anything goes’.

If you’re like me, the moment November 1st hits, you’re right back to counting down the days until the next Halloween. You’ve got your costume ideas down to a select few. By the time summer rolls around, you’re stuck eagerly staring at your finished product in the closet for four months.

Not being overly prepared for the night of sweets, horror and the year’s most popular movie characters doesn’t make you any less of a fan. In fact, most people wait until last minute to even consider the possibilities of their potential Halloween costumes. The last minute decision can leave your gas tank on ‘E’ as you try desperately to sort through the leftovers at costumes stores.

So, in the spirit of creativity and being eco-friendly, here are some tips for all you last minute party-goers.

1. Paper Bag Princess

intern-paper

Arguably the easiest and cheapest costume to throw together, is the “Paper Bag Princess.” It is the ultimate last minute assemble for story book fans or those with simple but creative taste. To execute, go to your local grocery store for a few large paper bags, or a few packs of paper lunch packs. Wallah! You’re a “Paper Bag Princess”!

2. Zombie Barbie

Putting a sick twist to a universal child’s toy, the “Zombie Barbie” is perfect for those who know how to work their magic with a few makeup brushes. Cheap alternatives to the most expensive of professional makeup to make this costume are toilet paper and eye-lash adhesive. You can grab a cheap wig at your local discount store, or go natural. Either way, you’re guaranteed to make a big impression on the general public if you walk out of your home looking equal parts Barbie-beautiful and cringe-worthy.

3. Lara Croft

intern-lara

If you’re into films or video games, or just have a general appreciation for all things ‘badass’ then Lara Croft from “Tomb Raider” is the costume for you. Played by Angelina Jolie, Lara Croft is one of the most iconic female movie characters. She has the strength and attitude of her male peers and the sexiness to back up all that sass. Her costume is a lot easier than her personality, though. Most of her costume consists of clothing and accessories you probably already have lying around the house. The smaller pieces, like gun holsters and weapons can be bought at your local dollar store or Halloween supply shop. If you’re feeling super nifty, you can even use your own belts to create a more vintage look for the costume’s straps.

4. Solar System

With a couple quick picks at your local craft store, nothing too fancy and nothing too expensive, you can show off your astral-love by sticking the solar system to your body. Your costume will be out of this world. Yes, I went there. What’s more? It’s the perfect costume for perfectly bad puns and unsuccessful but admirable pick-up lines. Use it to your advantage, because you’ll have the world wrapped around your finger (pun #2, you’re welcome).

5. #Basic

intern-basic

When you can catch the scent of pumpkin spice coming from your local coffee shop before the first leaf of autumn falls, this costume has your name all over it. Beware, this costume is an invite for some of the harshest critics but you definitely get kudos for being creative and crafty. So if you’re brave, or dedicated enough to your favorite caffeinated beverage, go for it! You won’t get another chance for another 364 days.

6. Video Game Characters

Image result for mario and luigi costumes

Mario and Luigi. The dynamic duo. You’d no doubt struggle to find a person who doesn’t have child memories that include the red-clad and green-clad brothers of Nintendo. This costume idea can extend to a fellow procrastinator and the final product is both cute and significant to majority of your peers.

7. Old School

intern-classic

Do you remember the days when grabbing a broom and a witch hat was all the rage? Or, maybe you were more of a plaid shirt wearing, hay stuffing kind of trick-or-treater. Those were the days of simplicity and the single-minded purpose of getting as many sweets packed into your pillow case. There’s nothing wrong with kicking it old school, either. Find ways to spice up an ordinary costume and make it more original.

Remember, anything goes. Judgement is like a whisper in the wind for this one night, so don’t waste it. With so many DIY tutorials, it’s easy to make the most rudimentary costume, or the most intricate, without scraping your pennies together and regretting it the morning after. Nothing is impossible with the power of internet and your own imagination.

Beauty Hacks Put to the Test

DIY hacks to make your beauty routine transition into Fall painlessly:

Fall is coming, or so says the Pumpkin Spice Lattes and dark-colored lipsticks. It’s time to pack away the swimsuits and pull out the sweaters as we buckle down for the back-to-school season. One way to cope with the sudden changes are some good ol’ beauty hacks. If you’re a full-time student, working long hours, raising kids or just like to find the shortcuts to all things in life, hacks are the perfect thing for you. They save money and time, not to mention energy, but do they really work?

Oil as a Makeup Remover…

coconut-oil-uses

Waterproof and sweat-proof makeup are a must-have no matter what the season. They stay put so we aren’t constantly swiping under our eyes, hoping we haven’t started to take on the dark-circled features of a raccoon. Many products claim to remove even the toughest of makeup, but they always leave something behind; a smudge of stubborn eyeliner or dirt deep down in your pores. I struggled with this issue for years until a friend of mine suggested extra virgin olive oil for makeup removal. Oil? Near my acne-prone skin? Much to my surprise, it worked and without the dreaded side effects I anticipated. The oil acts as any liquid makeup remover would- all you have to do is massage the oil onto your skin with your fingertips and wipe it away with a clean towelette.

Don’t let the word ‘oil’ freak you out. As of recently, beauty oils have been rising in the ranks of skincare. Extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil are just two of many that not only remove all the dirt and makeup from your face but moisturize your skin, as well. Both have been proven to promote hair growth and improve skin but which is better? Depends on what you need it for actually! Coconut oil is the lighter and more absorbable of the two, while extra virgin olive oil is best for a heavy-duty cleaning, like waterproof mascara. Overall, this beauty hack is, by FAR, my favorite.

The Lipstick Saver…

Finding the perfect lipstick is like finding the perfect life partner- this could take a while. You’ve got to do some in-depth explorations and soul searching. But even when you’ve found the perfect match for your skin tone, its durability has no guarantees. Layering and priming can help improve the lifespan of your lip color, but is there really a hack that helps prevent lipstick from getting onto teeth and smudging, too? Some say that all it takes is a bit of tissue paper and your favorite translucent finishing powder to accomplish the impossible. Apply the translucent powder to already lipsticked lips and pat on with tissue!

The hack definitely works, but it has got a few quirks to look out for. Beware of powdering the already matte lipstick. While the hack worked for all the lip colors I tried, it did tend to make matte lipsticks duller and my lips drier. If you can find a hack for this hack (layer those hacks, y’all), have at it and rock those matte lips! Otherwise, this was a decent hack, especially for the glossy lip colors that will slip and slide all over your face, if given the chance.

Bye, Bye, Dry Skin…

So, I’m sure you’ve heard of wonders of exfoliation. In a nutshell, exfoliating removes dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Now, there are countless exfoliating products in both drugstores and department stores, but finding the right one for your skin isn’t easy. If you have sensitive skin, you’ve definitely got your work cut out for you. Have no fear, we’ve got another beauty hack could save you from some trouble.

That wonderfully rich smell that drags you out of bed in the morning called coffee? Well, coffee just upped its game and got a little more amazing. (Get that oil back out, it’s not finished yet!) Take coconut or extra virgin olive and pair it with your coffee grinds for gentle but effective skin exfoliator. But this beauty hacks does its double duty. You can use this same recipe to reduce the appearance of stretch marks and cellulite by rubbing it on the backs of legs or any part of your body that needs extra pep! Live in fear of shorty-shorts and crop-tops no more!

Change Your Eye Makeup Game…

tumblr_n3l5l8wkmk1rz021ao1_1280

Lining your eyes has become something of an art form, one we aren’t all cut out for, myself included. I dread the mornings where my shaky hands can only manage the less attractive and unintentional sister of the smoky eye. We all know that look: my wings look like a backdrop of a Rocky Mountain view but the clock tells me that that will have to do. To combat those shaky lines, use tape to get that perfectly flicked line and mess-free eye shadow. Especially if you’re still finding your way in the makeup world. Just apply a small piece of tape to the outside of the eye, where you’d like the wing to “wing itself” and line away. Think of it like painters taping for crisp paint lines, but with your eyeliner.

However, I think it goes without saying that this is a process you should treated with caution. Be careful with this because the tape does tug at the sensitive skin around the eyes. This tugging could, in the long run, impact saving the youthfulness of your skin. While I can’t comment on the long-term effects of the ‘tape hack’, it is not something I would recommend using on a day-to-day basis. While flawless-looking makeup is an achievement to be proud of, good skincare is a top priority.

Lipstick VS. Dark Under Eyes …

Sleep doesn’t come easy for most. In fact, the recommended eight hours of sleep is a rare occurrence at best. So, if you’re like me and surviving off a few hours of shuteye, you’ll probably do just about anything to lessen the monstrosity of those dark and puffy under eyes.

Red lipstick as a concealer base for dark circles is a remarkably effective hack. The idea seemed a little whacky to me, why paste over my dark circles with even darker lip color? The concept is similar to many color correctors used for face discolorations, though. Green, orange and red cancel out most imperfections and gives you a great canvas for the rest of your makeup.

Despite being a good hack, I am not a fan of the red lipstick trick. It requires heavier makeup, and layering with both liquid concealer and foundation or doubling up on the concealer. The makeup looked a bit cakey and my skin was all but suffocating under the heaviness I’d burdened it with. I would reserve this hack for special events and shorter periods of wear, if only to avoid the discomfort it caused. Then again, beauty is pain, right? Wrong. As an alternative, use some cool (the cool bit is imperative) green tea bags for your under eyes before bed and first thing in the morning. It’ll work wonders on a day-to-day or long-term basis.

Now that you’ve saved some time and some money for the fast-approaching season, bring on those Pumpkin Spice Lattes, oversized sweaters and buy yourself that perfect fall product you’ve had your eye on!
